Mortified is a storytelling comedy show (books, film, TV Show, game, and podcast) in which people read from their diaries or things they created when they were teenagers in front of total strangers! Prepare for a hilarious, sweet, angst-ridden, relatable, inspiring, and mortifying night!
LACER Afterschool Programs started 30 years ago to provide services to local students in Hollywood. It grew from a handful of students at one middle school to serving thousands of kids each day in five middle schools and three high schools. LACER Afterschool serves students from 10 years old, all the way to graduation, with free athletic programming, tutoring, visual and performing arts, a culinary program, a skate park, and free driver’s education from the classroom to behind the wheel. LACER creates a space for thousands of young people to find and grow their community, find opportunity, graduation, and success.
A NOTE ABOUT THE SHOW: Like last year's comedy show, this is not a LACER student show or a show presented for kids—it's a comedy show with adults sharing the very real teen-awesome they created as kids. If it were a movie, it would be hilarious and definitely Rated R, but we know you can handle it!

I went to Aunt Liza’s house today. We were watching T.V., and she asked me to answer the door, and it was Sammy Davis, Jr.! I didn’t know what to do!
Hi, I’m Will. I’m going to be reading my angst-ridden 9th-grade journal chronicling obsessive-compulsive shoplifting excursions, a succession of happenstance celebrity meetings through my mom’s job with Liza Minnelli, and an addiction to a soap opera that had me cutting school. Oh, and also because the kids there were trying to kill me.
Friday, January 12 - 7:30 PM - DNA Lounge, San Francisco, CA
Saturday, January 13 - 7:30 PM - The New Parish, Oakland, CA

Mortified’s Best Of
NEW SHOW APRIL 15 at the Torrence Cultural Arts Center, California. I’ll be reading excerpts from my high school diary (1980’s) and sharing photos and video from when I was the bullied ‘new kid’ at South Lake Tahoe High. To survive, I cut classes, shoplifted my way through the city, and hung out with the lady my mom was working for, Liza Minnelli. At the time, I didn’t know who she was but her love, humor, and kindness saved my life and made for some really exciting happenstance interactions with her celebrity friends.
As seen on The Today Show! As heard on This American Life! Witness adults sharing their embarrassing childhood diaries, letters, poems, and artwork in front of total strangers at this special presentation of the hit storytelling event, Mortified at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center.
After two decades of shows worldwide, Mortified’s Best Of Show highlights some of the most hilarious, heartbreaking, and awkward tales of teen angst in the show’s history. Discover why Newsweek hailed Mortified “a cultural phenomenon,” The Atlantic called it “hilarious” and Salon named its podcast one of the best of the past decade.

Bill dear, as you will notice, this is just not my day!! I’ve been trying to draw Liza, (the one with a Z, you know) as you asked, but have had little success. At this point would you settle for Donald Duck!!! About the only thing I can draw right now is flies.
