RICHARD FRANK ‘DICK’ SEYMOUR, American Artist (1937-2014)

Dick was born in De Soto, Wisconsin to Richard and Iona (Hickok) Seymour. He graduated from De Soto High School and attended Mankato State University earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree, he then earned his teaching degree in History & Industrial Arts. He taught History, and physical education and was the football coach at Minnesota Lake High School later moving to San Diego and settling down in Escondido where he built six homes.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to build things and worked in construction for many years as a builder, contractor, and developer on projects in the greater San Diego area (Rancho Peñasquitos, Escondido, and Valley Center to name a few) including the installation of many of the first ATM’s in North County.

Dick painted throughout his life but in his later years, he began to dedicate more and more time to artistic endeavors. He created hundreds of pieces of art focusing on wildlife and wilderness landscapes. He painted from memory drawing inspiration from hunting trips he had taken in Alaska, Montana, Colorado, and Mexico. His work has been featured in newspapers and various magazines and his art has been seen in major galleries across the US.

In his later years, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and continued painting, taught art classes, participated in art shows, and was active in Parkinson’s support groups, encouraging and teaching others to keep doing what they loved.
